Cape Town – Controversial media figure Ngizwe Mlando Mchunu has issued a formal, unconditional public apology and retraction to Julius Malema after two binding court orders in May 2026 found his previous remarks to be defamatory.
Mchunu withdrew a series of serious allegations, including claims that Malema received large sums from drug dealers, looted VBS Mutual Bank, and misused funds linked to On Point Engineering and Ekurhuleni.
He also retracted personal insults in which he referred to Malema as a “political devil,” a “dead snake,” and a “dog.”

The apology follows a ruling by the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, which found the statements defamatory and ordered Mchunu not to repeat them “explicitly, impliedly, or otherwise.”
In his statement, Mchunu said he had sought legal advice and now fully understood the implications of the court orders, committing to avoid repeating the allegations in future and calling on his supporters to accept his retraction.
