Musina – The Department of Home Affairs has confirmed that a migrant died while travelling to the Beitbridge Border Post on Sunday night after departing from the Musina Repatriation Centre.
The department said the individual was travelling on one of the buses transporting migrants to Zimbabwe and Malawi. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
Project lead Albert Matsaung said the buses left the centre after passengers had boarded.
“After loading was completed at around 10.30pm, one of the bus drivers came back [to the centre],” Matsaung said.
He said that the bus had travelled about 15 kilometres from the repatriation centre when the incident occurred.

“We asked the driver as to where did he turn.., he turned around 25km away from the centre. When the bus was loaded here , everything was fine,” he said.
Matsaung added that officials were informed of the death by the driver and other passengers.
He said that the Malawian national collapsed on the bus after complaining of feeling unwell and was later declared dead.
“The information we received came from the bus driver and those who were travelling with the deceased. One person died while the bus was en route to the port of entry. The death did not occur at the repatriation centre.”
