The move comes amid mounting pressure on the presidency to act as the crisis within the South African Police Service deepens.
Ramaphosa placed Masemola on suspension as investigations continue into alleged violations of the Public Finance Management Act tied to the controversial contract.
The case relates to a high-value SAPS health services tender, with prosecutors seeking to consolidate Masemola’s case with that of alleged tenderpreneur Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and other co-accused.
Masemola’s suspension marks a significant development in efforts to address corruption allegations within the country’s top law enforcement structures, as scrutiny intensifies over leadership and governance in SAPS.
