Johannesburg – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has threatened legal action against media personality Ngizwe Mchunu over allegations that he received R60 million from Nigerian drug dealers.
The claims were made by Mchunu during an interview on the sidelines of an anti-illegal immigration protest organised by civic group March and March in Pretoria earlier this week.
I Hope my president @Julius_S_Malema and the @EFFSouthAfrica will attend to this Ngizwe guy. He say another reason CIC is not allowed in KZN is because CIC was given R60 Million by Nijarian Drug dealers for protection . pic.twitter.com/XFg2QYgGv0

The remarks, which were widely circulated on social media, also suggested that Malema protects undocumented foreign nationals for political gain.
In a statement, the EFF confirmed that Malema’s legal representatives have issued a formal demand to Mchunu, describing the allegations as false, malicious and damaging to his reputation as a Member of Parliament and political leader.
Malema’s lawyers are demanding a full retraction, public apology and press statement, as well as R1 million in damages within 24 hours, failing which legal proceedings will be instituted.

“These remarks are untrue, malicious, and damaging to his reputation as a Member of Parliament and political leader.
“We demand a retraction, public apology, press statement, and R1,000,000 in damages within 24 hours, failing which legal action may be instituted.”
The legal team argues that the statements are defamatory and create the impression that Malema is involved in criminal activity, adding that they appear aimed at gaining political leverage ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
