Cape Town – The Democratic Alliance (DA) has announced a new slate of mayoral candidates across the Western Cape as it ramps up its campaign ahead of the upcoming local government elections.
In a statement released on Tuesday, DA Western Cape leader Tertuis Simmers said the candidates had undergone a “rigorous selection process” and were ready to lead their respective municipalities if elected.
“These are candidates who have been through the most rigorous selection process to lead the DA caucus in their respective municipalities, and to serve as mayor if voters make the right choice,” Simmers said.
The newly announced candidates are: Jessica Kamkam (Bitou), Mario Wessels (Bergrivier), Raymond Ross (Cape Agulhas), Stephen Korabie (Drakenstein), Marais Kruger (Garden Route District), Browen Johnson (George), Richard van Huyssteen (Matzikama), Clinton Lerm (Overstrand), Harold Cleophas (Swartland), Jeremy Fasser (Stellenbosch) and Trevor Abrahams (Witzenberg).
All the municipalities are currently governed by the DA, with the party aiming to retain control by fielding candidates it says will ensure continuity in governance and service delivery.
Simmers said the candidates were expected to “deliver to the highest standards” and build on the party’s track record, which he said includes clean audits, job creation, anti-corruption efforts and reliable basic services.
With elections approaching, the DA said it would intensify its campaign efforts across the province, positioning itself as capable of maintaining and expanding service delivery under its leadership.
