Pretoria – Alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala will appear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on 15 July after his testimony was postponed at the request of his legal team, who sought more time to prepare his statement.
Commission chair Mbuyiseli Madlanga ordered Matlala, who appeared briefly via video link on Tuesday, to submit his written statement by 8 July and be ready to testify next Wednesday.
“Mr Matlala, the hearing of your testimony is postponed to 15 July, 2026… Your statement must be filed by tomorrow, 8 July, 2026,” Madlanga said.
Matlala remains in custody while facing charges including attempted murder, fraud and corruption.

Since the commission began its hearings, he has been repeatedly implicated in allegations of corruption involving senior SAPS officers, government officials and politicians.
The inquiry has heard claims that he bribed senior police officials, influenced arrests, obtained confidential police information and secured multimillion-rand government tenders, placing him at the centre of its investigation into alleged links between organised crime, law enforcement and political power.
Meanwhile, Cyril Ramaphosa has indicated he is willing to extend the commission’s mandate if additional time is needed to complete its work.
Speaking in Cofimvaba on Monday, Ramaphosa commended the work of the Madlanga Commission, saying he would consider extending its mandate if commissioners determine they need more time to complete their investigation.

“I am very pleased with the work that is being done with the Madlanga Commission. It may well be that they need a little bit more time and I’ll listen to that request if it comes,” Ramaphosa said.
