Bloemfontein – A 22-year-old Free State high school learner has been arrested and charged with assault after allegedly attacking a 21-year-old student teacher in an incident that was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

The assault reportedly occurred at a school in the province, sparking public outrage and prompting a police investigation.
Police have appealed for calm while investigations continue.
“We strongly plead for calm and space to allow the police investigation to take its natural course. The SAPS views all acts of violence, particularly against the vulnerable, in a serious light and is committed to ensuring that justice is served,” the police said.
The Free State Department of Education has condemned the incident, saying violence against educators and student teachers will not be tolerated.
