Durban – The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has been deployed to KwaDabeka in Clermont, west of Durban, following a spate of overnight business break-ins and looting incidents.
According to SABC News, several businesses were looted.
“At least two supermarkets and a dental practice were broken into overnight. Goods and equipment were stolen during the incidents,” the report said.
The deployment comes as authorities move to stabilise the area and support law enforcement efforts after businesses were left counting losses in the wake of the incidents.
Police have not yet confirmed arrests, and the circumstances surrounding the looting remain under investigation.
Security forces have been placed on high alert in parts of eThekwini as officials seek to prevent further criminal activity and restore order in affected communities.
The incidents form part of broader concerns around public safety in some areas of KwaZulu-Natal, where sporadic outbreaks of looting and violence have previously required heightened police and military presence.

Authorities have consistently warned that criminality, including theft and destruction of property, will not be tolerated, and have urged communities to assist law enforcement by reporting suspicious activity.
Further details on the scale of damage and the duration of the SANDF deployment are expected as the situation develops.
