Limpopo – Two men aged 34 and 46 have been arrested in Mookgophong, Limpopo, in connection with a R1.2 million fraud involving a fictitious meat order, police said.
The South African Police Service said the case began on 20 April 2026 when the general manager of an agricultural hub in Naboomspruit received a call from a man posing as an employee of a catering company.
The caller allegedly placed a large order for meat worth R1.2 million and promised payment via electronic transfer.
A day later, a fraudulent proof of payment was sent to the company.
However, verification by the finance department confirmed that no funds had been deposited and the document was fake.
The matter was reported to police, who launched an intelligence-driven operation.
The suspects were led to believe the transaction had been accepted, and delivery arrangements were made for Jubilee Mall in Hammanskraal, Gauteng.
On 23 April 2026, police dispatched a truck loaded with boxes disguised as meat under surveillance to the agreed location.
They are expected to appear before the Naboomspruit Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 April 2026 on charges of fraud. Police investigations are ongoing.
