KwaZulu-Natal – Four people have died following a shooting at a tavern in KwaMsane, KwaZulu-Natal, in which an off-duty police constable allegedly shot and killed three women before turning the gun on himself.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 10 October 2026, at a liquor establishment in the Nkodibe area.
Police said they responded to reports of a shooting and, upon arrival, found four bodies with gunshot wounds. Another victim, who sustained a gunshot wound, was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
According to police, the off-duty constable allegedly disarmed another man of his firearm during the incident. Both firearms were recovered at the scene.
“The cause of the shooting is unknown at this stage,” SAPS said.
Police are investigating three counts of murder, attempted murder and an inquest into the deaths.
Separate shooting leaves three dead in Eshowe
In a separate incident, police in Eshowe are searching for a suspect who allegedly shot and killed three people at a grocery store on Saturday.
According to SAPS, the suspect, a former employee of the store, had reportedly gone to the premises for an internal disciplinary hearing when he allegedly produced a firearm and shot three people.
The victims were declared dead at the scene.
“A manhunt for the suspect is underway,” police said.
Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding either incident as investigations continue.
