Durban – A 26-year-old woman who was mistaken for a dumped body was found sleeping wrapped in a white cloth alongside an unpaved road in Mount Vernon, KwaZulu-Natal, on Monday.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), two separate callers contacted the emergency response organisation on 31 August after believing that a human body had been dumped along the road.
RUSA officers and paramedics were dispatched to investigate the report and found an individual “tightly wrapped in a white cloth” lying on an embankment.
However, the situation took an unexpected turn when first responders began examining the person.
“While First Responders were examining the individual, the 26-year-old female became responsive and explained that she had been sleeping,” RUSA said.
The woman reportedly declined to provide further information to the responders before covering herself with the cloth and returning to sleep.
“She declined to provide further information, covered herself with the cloth and returned back to sleep,” RUSA said.
The incident did not result in any reported injuries, with the woman apparently having been asleep when passers-by raised the alarm.
RUSA did not provide further information on why the woman was sleeping at the roadside or whether any further action was taken.
