Durban – A 57-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run after he stopped to urinate while travelling with relatives along Jabu Ngcobo Road in Brindhaven, KwaZulu-Natal, on Sunday night.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said its Operations Centre received a call for assistance at about 9.36pm on 9 August 2026.
Reaction officers who arrived at the scene found the man lying on the roadway. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to RUSA, the man had been travelling in a silver Toyota Corolla with two relatives towards Trenance Park when the vehicle stopped near Fairview Drive.
“The deceased exited the vehicle to urinate when he was struck by an unknown white double cab bakkie,” RUSA said.
The bakkie driver allegedly failed to stop after the collision and fled the scene.
“The driver of the bakkie failed to stop and fled the scene,” RUSA said.
The registration number and exact model of the vehicle involved were not known.
Police are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision and work to identify the vehicle and driver involved.
