Durban – A 44-year-old woman and her two young children were held at gunpoint and locked inside their home during a violent home invasion in Tea Estate, Inanda, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday night.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the incident occurred at approximately 19:23 on 19 June 2026 when three masked suspects entered the residence on Jabu Ngcobo Road through an open dining room door.
RUSA said members responded to the scene after receiving reports of a home invasion and vehicle theft. On arrival, officers interviewed the victim, who confirmed the sequence of events.
The suspects then demanded the keys to a silver Peugeot 208 parked outside the property before locking the family inside the house and fleeing with the stolen vehicle and other property.
The victims later managed to free themselves using a spare key. No physical injuries were reported.
Reaction officers later traced the stolen vehicle’s last known location to the Hazelmere area, but the tracking device was believed to have been disabled, and the vehicle was not recovered.
Police are investigating.
