Boyfriend allegedly assaults pregnant girlfriend with glass after accusing her of cheating

Limpopo – A 28-year-old man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder after he allegedly attacked and stabbed his pregnant girlfriend with a glass object in Tseseng, Limpopo.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, 18 June 2026, when the 20-year-old woman was sleeping at her residence.

“It is alleged that on Thursday, 18 June 2026, during the early hours of the morning, the victim was sleeping at her residence when her 28-year-old boyfriend knocked on the door.
“After she opened the door, the boyfriend allegedly accused her of cheating and picked up a glass object, which he used to assault her on the head several times,” police said in a statement.
“The victim, who is pregnant, managed to escape from the house and ran outside. During a police tracing operation in the area, officers noticed that something was wrong when learners passing by the scene appeared concerned and were enquiring about what had happened. Police stopped and found the victim bleeding from her injuries.”

The woman was immediately assisted, taken to the police station for further processing and later transported to hospital for medical treatment.

The suspect was arrested and detained. He is expected to appear before the Tseseng Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder.

SAPS said the case forms part of ongoing efforts to combat gender-based violence and called on communities to continue reporting incidents of abuse.
