Durban – A 93-year-old woman and her 70-year-old daughter were robbed at knifepoint inside their home in Dawncrest, KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday afternoon in a violent housebreaking incident that has left the victims traumatised.
The incident was reported to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) at around 13:32, prompting officers to rush to Nightingale Circle where the attack took place.
According to initial reports, a lone armed suspect gained entry to the upper level of the home via a balcony before confronting the elderly woman and ordering her to remain silent.
The suspect threatened the victims with a knife and stole a mobile phone before fleeing the scene. Both women escaped physical injury but were left severely shaken by the ordeal.
Reaction officers conducted a search in the area and were later provided with a blurry image of the suspect allegedly fleeing the scene. A female officer was also deployed to the residence to assist in comforting the victims following the attack.
Police were expected to investigate the robbery and pursue leads on the identity of the suspect.
