A 13 km high-voltage power line being built in Zimbabwe is the last link needed to bring the US$10 million 50 MW first phase of the new Hwange power station online.
Spokesman Bob Wang says work on the power line is 80% complete, and the station is expected to start feeding 25 MW into Zimbabwe’s national grid during a testing phase in the next few months.
According to a CGTN report, the coal-fired power station – built and operated by licensed independent power producer Zimbabwe Zhongxin Electrical Energy (ZZEE) – will eventually have a generation capacity of 320 MW. Two additional 135 MW units are also due to be brought online during the year.
ZZEE is a subsidiary of Zimbabwe ZhongXin Coking Company, itself a joint venture between Qualisave Mineral Resources of Zimbabwe and Yuxia ZhongXin Coking Company of China.
