Johannesburg – Capitec has made its first major corporate move since changing its official name, securing a secondary listing on the A2X Markets exchange as the financial services group expands beyond traditional banking.
According to BusinessTech , Capitec Limited, formerly Capitec Bank Holdings Limited, has received approval for the secondary listing while retaining its primary listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE).
The company’s name change took effect on 26 August 2026 and was intended to better reflect its evolution beyond banking into areas including insurance and telecommunications.
Moneyweb reported that shareholders approved the change in July, with the JSE code and trading history remaining unchanged.
Capitec said the A2X listing will give shareholders another platform on which to trade its shares and potentially improve liquidity.
“Our secondary listing on A2X supports our commitment to creating value for shareholders by providing access to an additional trading venue and enhanced liquidity,” Capitec chief financial officer Grant Hardy said.
A2X is a South African licensed stock exchange regulated by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority and the Prudential Authority. Companies with a primary listing elsewhere can use the platform for a secondary listing without changing their overall share capital.
The move places Capitec among a growing number of major South African banking groups with secondary listings on A2X, as competition and diversification reshape the country’s financial-services sector.
