Cape Town – Businesswoman and former TV star Sonia Booth has opened up about the emotional toll of her recent divorce from former soccer player Matthew Booth, which was finalised less than two months ago.
The divorce followed a public separation in 2022 after Sonia exposed Matthew’s infidelity on social media.
Describing the process as a “rollercoaster ride”, Sonia said it drained her emotionally, physically, and financially, but she was determined not to settle for unfavorable terms.
Sonia reflected on her challenging journey, including a period in ICU, and expressed gratitude for her support system, particularly her family and sons, who have been her strength.
“All I experienced in the past year and five months happened for my own good. I believe everything happens for a reason, and it was all to strengthen me, to test my faith and to see how well-anchored I am.
“It happened for me to see what an incredible support system I have. I’m speaking about my mother and aunts. My sons have been an incredible source of strength. Having my boys show me the love they do, not once have they ever judged me. They love me unconditionally and remind me daily of what an incredible mother I am. That keeps me alive,” she said.
Despite the hardships, she maintains a positive outlook, believing everything happened for her growth and resilience.
In 2022, Sonia publicly accused Matthew of cheating on her for nearly a year and hired a private investigator to confirm her suspicions.
A notable incident from the time was the “cheesecake saga”, where Matthew baked a cake for his mistress, leading Sonia to launch her business, Marula Cheesecake Passion, offering liqueur-infused ice cream and other treats.
She turned her pain into motivation, using the incident to create a successful venture.
