Cape Town – South African Afrosoul star Lira made a moving return to the stage this past weekend with her one-woman show Lira: Still Here, performed on Sunday, 18 April at Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg.
After six years of battling a stroke, the singer stepped back into the spotlight, delivering a performance that blended resilience with artistry.

According to The Citizen, the show featured fan favourites like Feel Good, along with tracks from her reworked project Lira Rise Again – The Reworked Hits Collection.
“It’s been six years since I’ve performed at the Lyric Theatre,” the report quoted her as saying.
“I love the fact that it offers the intimacy I’d like for the show,” she added.
Lira also opened up during the show about the stroke she suffered in March 2022 while in Germany, which affected her ability to speak, read and write. Despite the challenges, she described the experience as life-changing.
“I could feel something in me calling me home. I wasn’t depressed and I had no anxiety. I was joyful,” she said.
“So I recognised my stroke as a blessing. It taught me to pause, to smell the roses, to recognise how much I’m loved. It had nothing to do with witchcraft. It was meant to happen because I was too busy. I needed to pause. The stroke saved my life.”
