Johannesburg – A 40-year-old Ghanaian national has been arrested at OR Tambo International Airport in connection with an alleged tax fraud case dating back to 2017.
According to the South African Police Service, the suspect was apprehended on Friday, 1 May 2026, after being flagged by the Movement Control System (MCS), which linked him to a case registered at Linden police station.
Police allege the suspect defrauded the South African Revenue Service by submitting fraudulent tax returns, resulting in losses exceeding R350,000.
The arrest was carried out by members of the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Unit in Johannesburg.
Gauteng Hawks head, Ebrahim Kadwa, commended the investigating officer for what he described as outstanding work in tracking down the suspect.
The accused is expected to appear before the Palmridge Commercial Crime Court on Monday, 4 May 2026, where he will face charges related to fraud.
