Sofia – A Ukrainian passenger bus overturned on a highway near Bulgaria’s border with Turkey on Wednesday, killing two Ukrainians and injuring 16 others, officials told AFP.
The bus “overturned” on the Burgas-Malko Tarnovo road, just before a border crossing heading into Turkey, a Bulgarian interior ministry spokeswoman told AFP.
Rescuers received an emergency call at 7:05 am (0405 GMT), she said, giving a toll of two dead and 16 people taken to hospitals.
A ministry source told AFP the passenger manifest listed 37 passengers and two drivers, all Ukrainians.
In 2021, 45 North Macedonians died when a tourist bus crashed and caught fire in one of Europe’s deadliest road accidents in a decade.
