Cape Town – A 32-year-old man was reportedly arrested after he allegedly murdered a wheelchair-bound 80-year-old man at Mutsha Thondoni village in Limpopo’s Vhembe District.
Reports said the 32-year-old man accused the deceased, who employed his mother, of practicing witchcraft.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the brutal murder occurred on Wednesday when the victim was taking a nap, reported IOL.
“The suspect, whose mother is reportedly a helper for the old man, arrived at the house and allegedly started hurling insults and accusing the old man of witchcraft. He quickly went to the room in which the victim was apparently taking a nap and broke the windows as well as the burglar door and entered the room,” said Mojapelo.
The suspect allegedly took the lid of an iron pot and started hitting the elderly man, fatally wounding him, said the report.
Police found the deceased, Mugivhi Winston Mashamba’s motionless body on the bed, according to New24.
“The paramedics were also called and the victim was certified dead at the scene,” Mojapelo was quoted as saying.
The motive for the gruesome murder remained unknown.
