At 47, Imran Tahir is still taking wickets and hopes to return to Guyana next year for a farewell in front of the fans.
Tahir is not ready to say goodbye to the Caribbean Premier League. The former Proteas spinner wants to return to the Guyana Amazon Warriors next year, when he will be 48.
“I’m very keen to come back and play because I feel this is my home,” Tahir said at a press conference in Georgetown on Tuesday. He said the support he receives in Guyana has made him want to finish his career in front of the Warriors’ home crowd.

He has given those fans plenty to celebrate. Tahir took 16 wickets in the 2026 CPL, finishing as a joint-leading wicket-taker, and produced a spell of 5-17 against the St Lucia Kings earlier this month.
The ending was harder to take. Guyana lost both of their playoff matches and finished third, leaving Tahir without the farewell he had hoped for this season. He captained the Warriors to their first CPL title in 2023, but said the decision on whether he returns rests with the franchise’s management and owner.

Tahir has played for Guyana throughout his CPL career. If the Warriors bring him back, he wants the chance to thank their supporters on the field one last time.
