Cape Town – South African football has been plunged into mourning following reports that Bafana Bafana and Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has died at the age of 25.

The news emerged on Saturday.

The cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Adams had recently returned from the FIFA World Cup, where he featured in three matches for Bafana Bafana as South Africa reached the Round of 32.

Tributes began pouring in on social media soon after the news broke, with supporters, teammates and football fans expressing shock at the loss of one of the country’s brightest talents.

“Not so long ago, you were singing, dancing and enjoying the World Cup moments with Oswin Appollis. Now we’ve woken up to the heartbreaking news of your passing,” one supporter wrote on X.

Another tribute read: “We lost a hero. Rest easy, Grootman Jayden Adams. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Adams family during this difficult time.”

Adams established himself as one of South Africa’s standout midfielders after rising to prominence with Stellenbosch FC before securing a move to Mamelodi Sundowns. His performances also earned him a regular place in the Bafana Bafana squad.
