Durban – uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party leader Jacob Zuma has dissolved the party’s Presidential Task Team (PTT) and established a new Strategic Presidential Team (SPT), which will now serve as the party’s highest decision-making body.
The latest restructuring comes just days after Zuma placed the party’s finances under his direct control by revoking the bank account signing authority of all party officials amid allegations of financial mismanagement, The Citizen reported.
The newly established SPT will assume all powers previously held by the Presidential Task Team and oversee the party’s strategic direction, governance, finances and electoral planning.
Confirming the changes, MK Party spokesperson Sifiso Mahlangu said the SPT would become “the highest decision-making and strategic leadership body of the organisation.”

“The Strategic Presidential Team is constituted as the highest decision-making and strategic leadership body of the organisation, vested with overarching authority to provide leadership, strategic direction, organisational coordination and oversight,” the report quoted Mahlangu as saying.
He said the restructuring was intended “to consolidate strategic authority, eliminate fragmentation in decision-making and ensure disciplined, unified and effective execution of Party resolutions and programmes.”
According to the party, all responsibilities previously exercised by the Presidential Task Team have been transferred to the new structure with immediate effect.
“The Strategic Presidential Team shall exercise supreme strategic leadership and decision-making authority on behalf of the organisation,” Mahlangu said.
The party said the SPT will oversee administration, financial management, organisational cohesion and electoral strategy, while directing the implementation of party policies and strengthening coordination across all structures.

“The Strategic Presidential Team and the National Officials shall work together to ensure strategic coherence, organisational effectiveness, accountability and the successful implementation of the Party’s programmes and electoral strategy,” Mahlangu added.
The announcement follows Zuma’s decision last week to centralise control of the party’s finances after stripping all officials, including the secretary-general and treasurer-general, of their authority to sign on party bank accounts.
According to Mail & Guardian, Zuma informed national, provincial and regional party structures that the move was necessary to restore “financial governance, accountability and orderly administration” amid growing concerns over the alleged misappropriation of party funds.
The publication reported that Zuma acted in his capacity as party president and accounting officer. The decision came shortly after he expelled his daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, from the party.
Zuma has endorsed the new leadership structure, with the party urging members, public representatives and organisational structures to support the changes and “work collectively in advancing the unity, strength and electoral success of the organisation.”
