Cape Town – EFF leader Julius Malema has pledged to support the families of 10 party members who died in a bus crash near Ulundi while returning from a Youth Day rally in Durban last week.
Speaking at their mass funeral in Vryheid on Sunday, Malema promised to build fully equipped houses for each victim’s family and to install boreholes where necessary to restore their dignity.
“To the families of these young heroes, we say you are not alone. Your loss is our loss. Your tears are our tears. Your children are not forgotten. The EFF will walk with you; we will support you and will continue to fight in their name.

“We are going to honour all of these 10 fallen heroes, each one of them with their house. A proper house that has got all the facilities. And if there is no water in those yards, we’ll make sure we put in boreholes so that we restore the dignity of those families,” Malema said.
He describing the 10 young party members as vibrant and full of promise.
“They were full of life, courage, and the spirit of resilience,” Malema said. “Their deaths are a reminder that we must do more to protect our youth from preventable tragedies.”
Malema linked their deaths to broader systemic failures, including poor infrastructure, road safety neglect, and socio-economic inequality.
He criticised government inaction and called for urgent reforms to protect South Africa’s youth.
Drawing parallels with historic struggles and revolutionary leaders like Thomas Sankara and Ibrahim Traoré, Malema urged the youth to continue the fight for justice and dignity.
