Cape Town – The ANC has criticised some of its MPs in Parliament for opposing the party’s ongoing relationship with the Democratic Alliance (DA) and expressing dissatisfaction with the DA’s court challenge of the Employment Equity Amendment Act.
ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula, speaking during a by-election campaign at Freedom Park in Soweto, said the conduct of these members shows ill-discipline and warned against leaking internal matters to the media.
“Members of the ANC must be disciplined. They must respect their own party. Leaking information to the media is detrimental to the cohesion of our movement, because that leakage of information is a distortion, and I’ve said to the media that there is no caucus of the ANC that can revolt against the ANC,” Mbalula said.

“…There is no caucus of the ANC that can rebel against the ANC. People have got a choice to join other political parties; those members of the caucus have been disciplined. They took orders from their party. They’ve raised their views and we respect their views. Even if it is decent and I will report to the officials tomorrow (Monday) and I will raise it with the NWC about some of the issues raised.”
Reports over the weekend said that ANC MPs had reportedly called for the DA to be removed from the government of national unity (GNU), citing escalating tensions and a lack of cooperation.
Sources inside the meeting pointed to the DA’s legal challenges against the Employment Equity Amendment Act, its opposition to the National Health Insurance (NHI) and the Basic Education Law Amendment (Bela) Act, and its overall undermining of government initiatives, the report said.

One MP reportedly told Mbalula that the DA’s actions were damaging the ANC and the coalition, urging swift action to sever ties with the party.
“There is no willingness from the DA to work with us. Their behavior shows they have no respect for our government,” a source was quoted as saying..
MPs are now pressing for the ANC to break away from the DA and secure a majority by aligning with smaller parties.
The internal friction extended beyond the DA issue, with ANC leaders reportedly expressing dissatisfaction over Mbalula’s tardiness at the meeting.
Deputy President Paul Mashatile and ANC chair Gwede Mantashe reportedly berated Mbalula for arriving late, with Mantashe leaving before Mbalula even spoke, City Press reported.
The late arrival sparked further frustrations, highlighting divisions within the party leadership.
