Suspended National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court alongside controversial businessman Vusimuzi Matlala, also known as “Cat”, and several police officers on charges linked to alleged violations of the Public Finance Management Act (PFMA).

The case forms part of a broader investigation into alleged corruption and irregularities in police procurement processes, including the awarding of a R228 million contract to Medicare 24 Tshwane District, a company allegedly linked to Matlala.
Authorities claim the procurement process failed to comply with financial and supply chain management regulations.
The matter has attracted national attention amid allegations of rogue policing networks and organised criminal activity involving senior officers, raising concerns about corruption within the police service.
