Pretoria – South African Revenue Service (SARS) officials raided the City of Tshwane headquarters on Thursday morning as part of an operation targeting suspended allegations against chief financial officer Gareth Mnisi.
The operation at Tshwane House was conducted under a search warrant, with eNCA reporting that officials seized electronic devices, including a laptop and cellphones.
Mnisi was previously implicated in allegations of tender-rigging and leaking confidential information, which were raised at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

He was suspended earlier this year after allegations emerged that he had shared confidential tender documents with friends and may have been involved in a tender-rigging scheme. However, a forensic investigation commissioned by the municipality reportedly found no evidence of wrongdoing against him, and he returned to work in July.
The City of Tshwane confirmed that SARS had notified it of its intention to execute search warrants at Mnisi’s office and residence.
“SARS had previously advised the City of its intention to execute search warrants at the office and residence of chief financial officer Gareth Mnisi,” mayoral spokesperson Samkelo Mgobozi said.
Mgobozi confirmed that Mnisi left Tshwane House accompanied by SARS officials, referring further questions about the operation to the revenue service.

She said the city could not yet comment on the nature of the operation.
“At this stage, the City is not in a position to comment on the nature of the operation,” she said.
Moya added that the municipality remained committed to cooperating with the relevant authorities and ensuring that matters involving municipal officials were handled in accordance with the law.
“Any further enquiries regarding the operation should be directed to SARS,” she said.
SARS had not provided further details about the operation at the time of publication.
