Cape Town – Democratic Alliance leader and Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has dismissed social media claims that he acted “racist” toward party MP Luyolo Mphithi in a viral video from the DA federal congress.
The footage sparked online debate after Hill-Lewis appeared not to greet Mphithi on stage, with some users alleging a snub.
However, both Hill-Lewis and Mphithi rejected the claims, saying there was no close interaction at the time and no incident occurred.
@LuyoloMphithi the fake X bots are outraged and working overtime to spread fake news 🤣🤣
Thank you all for watching the DA’s best congress ever 👏🔥🙂 pic.twitter.com/0ImGDBoNgn

Hill-Lewis mocked the criticism as “fake news,” while Mphithi said he was standing too far away for a handshake and confirmed there was “no crisis.”
As the guy in this video – I want to clear something up. I was standing far back and not in close proximity to Geordin. He did not skip me I was not in close range for him to shake my hand. There is no crisis here. Let’s move on. https://t.co/L9pe1FPIwm
