The EFF and ATM have both confirmed they will oppose President Cyril Ramaphosa’s urgent court application to stop Parliament’s impeachment inquiry from proceeding.
The EFF said the application is an attempt to delay accountability and avoid facing the Section 89 impeachment process.
Spokesperson Sinawo Thambo argued that Parliament is constitutionally required to proceed with the inquiry following the Constitutional Court’s directive, and that Ramaphosa is using legal avenues to stall the process.

The ATM also rejected the application, saying any urgency in Ramaphosa’s case is “self-created.”
Its legal team insisted the impeachment process should not be halted and called for the matter to be heard and resolved quickly, even suggesting it could be dealt with in a single day during an expedited hearing.
Both parties maintain that Parliament must continue with the impeachment inquiry unless a court explicitly orders otherwise.
