Cape Town – The kidnappers of Ukrainian national, Anichka Penev have reportedly demanded a ransom of R5 million to facilitate her return.
The 35-year-old woman was abducted in Ipswich Road, Blue Downs on Thursday morning.
According to IOL, the R5 million ransom was demanded from her husband, Simeon, an hour after she was abducted.
Meanwhile, News24 reported that a relative of Penev has urged the media to stop speculation, as it is “hurtful and very dangerous”.
The relative said that the family feared the kidnappers were following media reports.
“We miss her dearly and are praying that she is safe and well looked after wherever she may be. We humbly request that speculation surrounding Anichka’s disappearance is stopped so that the investigations can continue without any hindrance,” the relative said.
Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, announced on Friday that the South African Police Service (SAPS) had agreed to the City’s request for SAPS to utilise the services of its specialised units and form an inter-governmental kidnapping and extortion task force.
