Durban – Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane has warned that law enforcement will take action against anyone who breaks the law during marches or protests amid rising tensions over immigration.
Dimpane said police plans are in place to maintain public order and ensure that demonstrations remain peaceful.
She was speaking during an oversight visit to a temporary repatriation centre in Durban on Sunday, where South African and Malawian officials were monitoring the processing of displaced undocumented Malawian nationals.

She said police have enough resources to manage the situation and will respond if laws are violated.
“Plans are in place to ensure that we maintain law and order,” Dimpane said.
“If there are marches for peaceful marches, if the law is broken, we will be there in our numbers to ensure that we enforce the law.”
She called on communities and organisers to respect the country’s laws and ensure protests are conducted peacefully.
