Durban – A motorist fled on foot after allegedly driving through a red traffic light and crashing a vehicle into a store in Grange, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday night.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa, emergency responders were called to Todd Street at about 9.57pm, where they found a white Nissan bakkie lodged inside a Somali-owned shop.
Members of Reaction Unit South Africa arrived at the scene and discovered extensive damage to the storefront after the vehicle ploughed through the front of the building.
Witnesses told responders that the driver allegedly ignored a red traffic signal before colliding with a stationary tow truck.
The impact reportedly caused the bakkie to veer off the road and crash into the store.
According to eyewitness accounts, the driver exited the vehicle immediately after the collision and fled the scene on foot before authorities arrived.
“No information regarding his identity was available at the time of publication,” RUSA said.
The extent of damage to the store was not immediately known, and there were no reports of injuries.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and trace the driver who fled the scene.
