Cape Town – The eThekwini Municipality council meeting faced a disruption when Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillors called for the removal of the city manager, Musa Mbhele, from a meeting on Tuesday.
According to The Witness, the disturbance began after Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda explained why R1.2 billion in funds earmarked for city infrastructure repairs were returned to the National Treasury.
The speaker, Thabani Nyawose, ruled against the EFF’s request to have the city manager leave the meeting, and council whip Patience Sishange attempted to address the EFF to calm them down, the report said.

When the EFF refused to leave, the speaker called for security to remove them, resulting in a confrontation.
Nyawose said the EFF’s behaviour will be investigated according to council rules and the code of conduct.
