Cape Town – A police officer was injured during a cash-in-transit heist on the N3 north near Durban on Saturday as police launched a manhunt for the suspects involved.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics remained outside the scene until it was declared safe by the South African Police Service (SAPS).

“We remained on the perimeter until we were given the green light by SAPS to enter to check the guards and, obviously, one of their own,” Jamieson said.
He said the police officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
“The police officer sustained minor injuries, fortunately, and he is still in hospital receiving treatment,” he said.
Jamieson said the two security guards who were inside the cash-in-transit vehicle escaped the incident unharmed despite the vehicle catching fire.

“Fortunately, the two security officials that were in the cash-in-transit vehicle didn’t sustain any injuries, which is quite miraculous, as you can see by the burning vehicle,” he said.
He added that there had been a heavy exchange of gunfire between the suspects and police officers who came across the incident while on patrol.
“There was a heavy exchange of gunfire between the suspects as well as the police officials that were driving past when the incident occurred and then approached the scene as they’re trained to do,” Jamieson said.
According to Jamieson, the security officials fled the scene during the attack.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects.
