Cape Town – Torrential rain and strong winds have caused widespread flooding and damage across Cape Town, with trees uprooted, roads flooded and roofs damaged in several areas.
The South African Weather Service issued a Level 8 warning for disruptive rainfall affecting Cape Town and surrounding regions, warning of possible flooding, mudslides and dangerous river conditions through at least Tuesday.

Areas including Plattekloof, Wynberg and Kenilworth reported flooding and fallen trees, while damage was also reported at a Spar store in Glencairn after strong winds blew off parts of the roof.

The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management teams are monitoring affected areas and have urged residents to remain indoors where possible and exercise extreme caution when travelling.
