WATCH | Brave police officers rescue biker from fiery crash

Cape Town – A motorcyclist was reportedly rescued by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s Germiston precinct officers after he crashed into a moving truck while attempting to enter a freeway.

According to IOL, the motorcycle caught fire upon impact, and officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) quickly intervened.

Officers Tokelo Makhetha, Bhekubuhle Mthethwa, and Dinako Maubane used their clothing and hats to control the fire and rescue the trapped motorcyclist from underneath the truck.

“After the motorcycle crashed into the truck, it caught fire and metro police officers Tokelo Makhetha, Bhekubuhle Mthethwa and Dinako Maubane, jumped into action and tried to control the fire, using their official hats and clothing, at the same time rescuing the motorcyclist trapped underneath the truck,” the report quoted spokesperson for the EMPD Lieutenant Colonel Kelebogile Thepa as saying.

The injured biker, 29 years old, was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The truck’s driver and crew were unharmed.

The incident resulted in a case of reckless and negligent driving being registered for further investigation.
