Cape Town – The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and South African Police Service (SAPS) are investigating a viral video that appears to show a soldier slapping a woman during a joint law-enforcement operation in Tafelsig, Mitchells Plain, Cape Town.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday during an operation involving soldiers and police.
The footage has since circulated widely on social media, prompting scrutiny of the conduct of SANDF members deployed alongside police in Cape Town communities.

The footage appears to show the soldier slapping the woman twice during a confrontation. The woman appears to move between the soldier and a younger woman as the confrontation unfolds, while other soldiers and SAPS members are visible at the scene.
The latest incident comes amid growing scrutiny of the conduct of security forces involved in Operation Prosper, the joint deployment aimed at tackling gang-related crime and other security threats in Cape Town’s vulnerable communities.

The circulation of the footage has also renewed questions about accountability and oversight of military personnel operating alongside civilian police in communities.
