Ladysmith – Police in Elandslaagte have arrested two suspects aged 18 and 19 in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old Ethiopian national who was found dead inside his container tuck shop at Matiwaneskop in KwaZulu-Natal.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said officers responded to reports of a murder on Thursday, 25 June 2026, and found the victim’s body lying in a pool of blood with multiple stab wounds.
“The motive of the killing is suspected to be robbery,” SAPS said.
Investigating officers launched a search for the suspects, with police crediting assistance from community members for helping track them down.
“The investigating officers hit the ground running searching for the suspects, and with the cooperation from community members, the two suspects were arrested at Elandslaagte on Sunday, 28 June 2026,” police said.
The two suspects are expected to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 30 June 2026, facing charges related to the murder.
Meanwhile, police in the UThukela District have arrested 20 undocumented foreign nationals as part of ongoing operations targeting immigration violations.
SAPS said the individuals, who are from six different African countries, were arrested on Sunday, 28 June 2026.
“They will be processed and be handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for further processing and deportation,” police said.
The arrests come amid heightened national attention around undocumented migration, with authorities continuing operations aimed at enforcing immigration laws across the country.
