Cape Town – South African Media personality, Bonang Matheba has slammed Minister of Transport Fikile Mbalula for leaving the country following the recent accident in Pongola.
The accident that occurred on Friday, September, 16 reportedly claimed the lives of 21 people, of whom 19 were between the ages of 5 to 12 years.
The truck driver, who fled the scene, handed himself over to the Police the next day.
Matheba criticised Mbalula on Twitter after he tweeted: “Landed in Qatar Doha good morning.”
The media personality advised the politician that he should have cancelled his trip in order to attend to the families of Pongola.
“Tone deaf. All of you. You should’ve cancelled this trip. The community of #Pongola need you,” Matheba tweeted.

Other social media users also took to Twitter to express their dismay at the lack of action taken by their government.
Unfortunately, kids have died in Pongola and that’s it, nothing will be done. Just like kids died in eNyobeni and nothing was done. Just like people died in Phoenix and nothing was done. Just like people died in the Soweto shooting and nothing was done. RSA is a crime scene💔

Pongola accident was a time ticking bomb, ordinary people have been alerting abo @MbalulaFikile about the situation. Sadly they were not famous like aboAnele Mdoda to be recognised by our minister. pic.twitter.com/QwpaTj3gi5

Dear Twitter lawyers
Is there a way that Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula can be charged for negligence after tweet screenshots have emerged that he had been made aware of that Pongola road but chose to ignore?#PongolaN2

Fikile Mbalula should be criminally charged for the Pongola accident. He’s too busy being an influencer to actually do his job
