Pretoria – The South African Police Service (SAPS) has confirmed that disciplinary proceedings against suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Lieutenant-General Shadrack Sibiya are continuing and have not been halted.
In a statement issued on Monday, SAPS said the disciplinary proceedings and separate Labour Court proceedings were being heard in parallel.
Sibiya is facing charges including rape, sexual grooming of a minor and human trafficking. He denies the allegations.
“The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirms that the disciplinary proceedings against Lieutenant General Sibiya are proceeding and have not been halted,” the police said.
The disciplinary hearing was heard on Monday, with Sibiya’s request for a postponement granted.
According to SAPS, the matter has been postponed to 12 October 2026 to give Sibiya an opportunity to consult with his legal representatives ahead of the hearing.
“The matter has been postponed to 12 October 2026 to allow him an opportunity to consult with his legal representatives in preparation for the hearing,” SAPS said.
The Labour Court also heard an urgent application related to the matter on Monday.
The court proceedings were adjourned to allow SAPS to file its opposing papers, after which Sibiya will be able to file his replying affidavit.
“The Labour Court matter remains sub judice, and SAPS will therefore refrain from commenting on the merits of the matter,” the police said.
Sibiya’s disciplinary proceedings and the Labour Court application will therefore continue separately, with the disciplinary hearing scheduled to resume on 12 October.
