Northern Cape – Six suspects have been arrested after police seized six Jetour T2 Hybrid vehicles worth approximately R4.75 million in Colesberg following an intelligence-driven operation targeting suspected vehicle fraud.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the operation took place on Friday, 16 October 2026, after Crime Intelligence in the Western Cape alerted police in Colesberg to information about six white Jetour T2 Hybrid vehicles allegedly travelling from Beaufort West towards the town.
The alert was received at approximately 14:40 and prompted members of the Highway Patrol, Colesberg Visible Policing and Hanover SAPS to position themselves along the identified route.
Police spotted the vehicles about 35km from Colesberg, with one man occupying each vehicle.
According to SAPS, the drivers told officers they were transporting the vehicles to an undisclosed destination in Pretoria.
However, further investigations uncovered documents suspected to be fraudulent inside the vehicles.
“The investigation established that the vehicles were allegedly fraudulently purchased, prompting the immediate impoundment of all six vehicles,” SAPS said.
The investigation also revealed that six vehicles of the same make had already been impounded in Beaufort West by Western Cape Crime Intelligence, bringing the total number of vehicles seized in connection with the investigation to 12.
The six vehicles seized in Colesberg are valued at approximately R4,752,000.
Police also confiscated 10 cellular phones and documents suspected to be fraudulent.
Six case dockets have been registered at Colesberg SAPS in connection with the possession of suspected stolen vehicles.
The six suspects, all South African citizens aged between 28 and 62, were arrested and detained while investigations continue.
Acting Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner Major General Luntu Ngubelanga commended the officers involved, saying the operation demonstrated the importance of intelligence-sharing and cooperation between provinces.
“Crime does not respect provincial boundaries, and neither can our response to it. The swift sharing and operationalisation of intelligence enabled our members to intercept these vehicles and apprehend the suspects,” SAPS quoted Ngubelanga as saying.
He also praised the officers for their vigilance and swift response, adding that police would continue strengthening partnerships with Crime Intelligence and other law enforcement agencies nationally.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to appear in the Colesberg Magistrates’ Court soon.
