Delmas – The extortion and money-laundering case involving Mpumalanga taxi bosses Joe “Ferrari” Sibanyoni and Bafana “King of the Sky” Sindane, along with two co-accused, has been postponed to April next year as the State seeks more time to investigate the allegations.
The four accused appeared briefly in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, with proceedings postponed to 20 April 2027.
They face charges linked to allegations that more than R2 million was extorted from businessman Tengane Thomas Ntuli in connection with a road-construction contract linked to the Moloto Road project.

According to EWN, the State requested additional time to investigate the matter, while the defence objected to the further delay.
Sibanyoni’s lawyer, advocate Shaun Abrahams, asked the court to make the postponement final for investigative purposes. The court also ordered that the case docket be disclosed in April.
All four accused remain on bail of R70,000 each.
Court hears of threats to investigators
The latest court appearance also brought concerns about the safety of investigators working on the case.
The State informed the court that members of the investigating team had raised concerns about alleged threats connected to the matter.
The prosecution stressed that it was not accusing the four defendants of making the threats.
The defence teams distanced their clients from the allegations, with some expressing concern that the issue had been raised in court without prior consultation.

Sowetan also reported that the State agreed to relax the accused’s bail conditions relating to reporting to a police station. They will now be required to report once a month.
Allegations linked to Moloto Road tender
The case centres on allegations that Sibanyoni and Sindane demanded protection payments from Ntuli, whose business was involved in a road-construction contract.
The allegations have also featured in evidence before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, which is investigating alleged criminality, corruption and interference in the criminal justice system.
According to Business Day’s earlier reporting on the allegations before the commission, the alleged payments were linked to a contractor involved in the R3.7 billion Moloto Road upgrade project in Mpumalanga.
The allegations against the accused have not been proven in court.
The matter is expected to return to the Delmas Magistrate’s Court on 20 April 2027 for further proceedings.
