Cape Town – A security company, G4S Cash Solutions, is reportedly offering a R1 million reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest, prosecution and conviction of criminals who shot and killed one of its guards during a cash-in-transit heist at the Engen Middlevlei station, Gauteng on Monday.
According to News24, the company’s security guards were collecting cash at a filling station when they were attacked by men who were driving in a blue Mercedes-Benz, a white BMW and a Mazda BT-50 double cab.
The suspects rammed into the cash van, causing it to come to a halt. They proceeded and shot dead one of the security guards.
The other two bodyguards were ordered to lie down and robbed of their service pistols.
The van was then blown up, and an undisclosed amount of money taken, said the report.
A case of murder, attempted murder and theft of firearms was opened.
“We are devastated at this tragic and senseless loss and have conveyed our deepest condolences and support to the family of the deceased. We are making it a priority to ensure these criminals are held to account,” Times Live quoted regional cluster director for G4S Southern Africa Renso Smit as saying.
One of the perpetrators was caught on camera.
The police urged anyone with information relating to the incident to report to their nearest police station.
