Cape Town – One of the three suspects who allegedly broke into a police officer’s house was found wounded near the scene after the officer retaliated and shot him.
It is alleged that three armed men stormed into the Sergeant’s home in the early hours of Sunday morning while the officer and his wife were asleep in Lukau Tshishive village.
“The Sergeant was awoken by a loud bang on the door and three unknown males entered the bedroom, one of them carrying a firearm. The suspects demanded money and cellphones from the victim and they ultimately ransacked the room and took some clothes, footwear, ladies handbag and wallet with bank cards,” police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said in a statement.
The officer was shot in his shoulder and his wife was reportedly dragged to the nearby bushes.
The sergeant reportedly managed to crawl to get his service pistol and retaliated by shooting the attacker, who jumped over the fence and disappeared into the bushes.
“The police searched the nearby bushes and found a man with wounds, believed to be the suspect who was shot in the sergeant’s house. The wounded man was reportedly in possession of the goods stolen from the police sergeant’s house,” said Ledwaba.
The suspect who is a Zimbabwean national will appear at the Mutale Magistrate’s Court on charges of attempted murder and house robbery.
A search for two other suspects continues.
