Johannesburg – A second senior official in the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality has been arrested, just a day after the suspension and arrest of EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
The 40-year-old suspect was taken into custody in Johannesburg on Sunday.
Like Mkhwanazi, he faces charges of fraud, corruption, and obstructing justice.
“He faces the same charges of Fraud, Corruption and Defeating and or obstructing the ends of justice,” polie said in a statement.
“Both suspects will appear before the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 April 2026.”
Police confirmed the arrests are part of an ongoing investigation into corruption within the municipality.
