Springbok – Police in the Namakwa District have intercepted a large consignment of hydroponic cannabis valued at approximately R289,200 during a targeted operation on Monday, 20 April 2026.
According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), the bust was carried out at around 12:40 by members of the Springbok Highway Patrol and K9 Unit after officers acted on information about a suspicious parcel at a local Paxi courier facility.
Police say the package emitted a strong smell of cannabis, prompting an inspection that led to the discovery of a large plastic bag filled with hydroponic cannabis.
Preliminary information indicates the parcel was dispatched from Durban and was destined for collection by an unknown individual in the Namakwa District.
No arrests have been made at this stage, and an enquiry has been opened for further investigation.
“The police in Namakwa are relentless in their efforts to curb and prevent drug trafficking in the district,” SAPS said in a statement, adding that drug trafficking “poses a serious threat to the safety and well-being of our communities.”
Investigations are ongoing.
