Cape Town – Political fixer Oupa Brown Mogotsi has once again been denied bail after the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court ruled that he had failed to present any new evidence to justify his release.
According to The Citizen, Mogotsi lodged a renewed bail application after his initial bid was dismissed on 4 June, when the court raised concerns over inconsistencies surrounding his residential address.
In his latest application, Mogotsi again relied on information relating to 4544 Mohatlhga Street in Mmabatho, North West, which he claimed was his primary residence.
However, the court ruled on Monday, 29 June 2026, that the address had already been considered during the previous bail hearing and therefore did not amount to new evidence.
“The court finds that the address of 4544 Mohatlhga Street is not a new fact,” the magistrate said.
The court further noted that the property does not belong to Mogotsi but to another individual, adding to the concerns about the credibility of his application.
The magistrate also dismissed Mogotsi’s claim that the State had failed to provide CCTV footage relating to his alleged attempted assassination.
According to the court, the prosecution indicated that its investigation had been completed and that its case does not rely solely on the video footage.
“According to the state, the investigation is completed and they are not relying solely on the video footage because there are witnesses.”
“As such, there is no doubt in the state’s case.”
The magistrate said that the renewed application merely reshuffled evidence that had already been placed before the court.
“There are no new facts, but reshuffling of evidence. My decision still stands.”
Mogotsi’s bail application was accordingly dismissed, and the matter was postponed to 8 July 2026 for the arrangement of a trial date.
According to SABC News, Mogotsi was initially denied bail because of discrepancies regarding his residential address.
During the renewed bail proceedings, the State strongly opposed his release and introduced further evidence alleging that, while in custody, Mogotsi attempted on three occasions, through his wife, to pressure and intimidate a neighbour into changing her statement about where he lived.
