Johannesburg – Police have discovered the body of a ninth woman in Ekurhuleni, deepening concerns over a series of killings that have unsettled communities across the East Rand.
The latest victim was found on Thursday morning, 17 September 2026, in Dawn Park, where her semi-naked body had been wrapped in a sheet and left on the roadside.
Police are investigating the discovery as part of a wider probe into the deaths of women whose bodies have been found across Ekurhuleni in recent weeks.
Gauteng acting police commissioner Major-General Fred Kekana said preliminary indications suggested that the woman’s body had been dumped at the scene. Her identity and the circumstances surrounding her death had not yet been confirmed.
The latest discovery comes after police linked eight previous cases to a specialised investigation spanning Kempton Park, Olifantsfontein, Clayville and KwaThema.
Police have deployed additional detectives, crime intelligence officers, forensic experts and other specialised resources to establish whether the cases are connected. Authorities have stressed that it remains too early to conclude that a single perpetrator or a serial killer is responsible.
A R400,000 reward has been offered for information that could lead to arrests. Police have also appealed to families with missing relatives to come forward to assist with the identification of the victims.
The multidisciplinary investigation remains ongoing.
